control of everything in town except the "ladies street".

Amelia Island's colorful history adds to it's charm.
Historians tell us that when Aury took over Fort San Carlos
at Fernandina, the men decided to raise a flag to
demonstrate their conquest of.
Aury and his men were looking for treasure, gold to be
specific. What they found was an open town, abandoned by the
Spanish, with a flourishing economy based on the slave trade
industry.
This was a small window of power for the sea faring
buccaneers, for soon the United States would assume control
of Amelia Island and piracy would fade into the ghosts of
folklore and legend.
Invariably, when a tourist gets a little sand in their
shoes, they start contacting Realtors and begin dreaming of
their own private Amelia Island retreat.
